Reflection

I loved the Things about Flikr, TeacherPop, and Animoto. Since I now know how to technology more effectively it will defiantly help me in my teaching career. With this project my list of user names and passwords about tripled but I can use the majority of them with my kids. With all of the tips and programs that I learned about I can certainly be able to teach my students more efficiently. I really hope to continue to use this blog in the future. I must admit I have a problem starting something but not finishing it but I have a good feeling that wont happen this time. :D

Thing # 23

I thought the 'Fair(y) Use Tail' was entertaining to watch. I thought that creative commons was a very usefull tool. I found it kind of hard to follow though. I found that the 23 things was someone elses work at:

At the bottom of the 23 things pages-Credits
Learning 2.0 - 23 Things for Teachers is based on Learning 2.0 - 23 Things, a staff development program for the Mesquite Independent School District. That program was based on the Learning 2.0 program that was designed by Helene Blowers and adapted by the California School Library Association and others. Thing # 22

I had heard of podcasts afew times but I never really knew what they were. I seen the link to them on itunes I just never clicked on it until now. I thought the Educational Podcast Directory would be really useful since it is teacher working together to help each other improve thier teaching strategies. I think podcasts are a great idea. When i become a teacher I want to make my own website and I have a page dedicated to when my kids miss days. I can create podcasts to explain to them and thier parents what they missed with a slidshow giving them a visual.

Thing # 21 Pt 2

Thing # 21 Pt1

While I wan uploading my pictures the upload server went down so that made this even longer since I had to upload each picture separately. I finally got it to work. I made an Animoto of my nieces Madison and Mykyla. This was pretty cool. I could have my students make a show about a subject that we are studying or about their family. I was able to get the Animoto onto my blog I just couldnt get it onto this specific blog so just look up to see mine.

Thing # 20

I have been on YouTube before. I have never uploaded anything to it but I have watched videos from it. This is the video that I found on YouTube. It is "Teachers Rap about Teaching High School". I thought it was funny. I wouldn't use YouTube in my classroom since there are many videos that are not school appropriate but I would show them a video from it for a lesson.

Thing # 19

I joined TeacherPop. I have never been apart of a website that requires administrative approval for joining so now I am waiting to be approved. I tried to browse other people's pages and I found Professor Wall's page. I found the best thing on it......101 Scholarships Just for Teachers. I was looking at that the rest of the night so maybe I will get my approval by the morning.

I got my approval. I love the site, I am just not a big fan of the fact that when you add something it has to be approved. So I still dont have a picture but I was able to get the bage onto my blog

Thing # 18

I have had a Myspace acct since I was a junior in high school. http://www.myspace.com/iheartmunkis. It is a great way to keep in contact will friends that you are not able see often. I have a friend in Lebanon, a friend in Kansas, a mom in Korea, and a sister in Texas so this is how I an able to keep in touch with them. It is a great way to meet people and express yourself. Myspace also informs you about news, upcoming music, and entertains you with funny videos. The biggest con to it is that you have to watch what you put on your profile because there is always going to be that crazy guy when does not have the best intention.

Thing # 17

Del.icio.us is extremely easy to use and so convenient. I will never bookmark again. This will actually organize things and only show what you site you want to see. You can definitely use this site for organizing research and cataloging activities. It is like a great giant filter.

Thing # 16

I have already created a google alert and calender so choose to make an iGoogle. I was finished with it in under a minute. It was that easy. I thought that there was would be more work involved in it. I had always heard of Gmail account I just never made one myself until this class. When you have one you can do so many things with in and find so much more information. It is definitely a must have

Thing # 15

Hearing the word Wiki I automatically thought of Wikipedia. I was always told do not use Wikipedia as a reference since anyone can put things on there. Wikis were a little hard for me to understand at first, but i think I am beginning to understand them. I probably wont be able to use wikis in my K-6 classroom but I am sure that I can use it to colaborate with teachers

Thing # 14

For the flowchart I choose to use Gliffy since flowchart.com would take an invite and i want to get at least to thing 15 or 16 today. I like how that offer the free package just to see if you would want to pay for it or not. This was so user-friendly and understandable. I could definitely use this in my classroom for showing similarites in things and helping kids study. For the mind map I used Bubbl.us. It was so easy to navigate. You can create a mind map as big as you want.

Thing # 13

It took me a few minutes to get to the Zoho sign in page. I guess since my internet in not being nice today, but they can tell me 'page cannot be displayed' or just sit there and not do anything all it wants I an going to get this done. I want to find out what a Zoho is. This is so much better than Microsoft Office. I am so happy I only downloaded a trial version of Office 2007. I am totally using Zoho form now on. It SOOOO easy to understand. I dont know how I have been able to live with out it. I found me a new toy!!! :)

Thing #12

The Google alerts is such a useful tool. I will definitely use this in the future. I created a Goggle Calender too. I can upload this on to my personal website to show my students and thier parents when things are due and what I assigned for homework

Thing #11

I used the Edublogs' award winners to find some interesting blogs but no many of them has RSS feeds so I was kind of bummed. So than I went to Syndic8.com and finally found an RSS feed. It was super confusing so I went to Topix.net. I love how it shows you so much infomation about differnent topics. I thought that the Google Blog Search was the easiest to follow and find things in.

Thing #10

Since I already have a Google account most of the work for Google reader was done for me so that was AWESOME. Since the blogs in class that I have already subscribed we on Google reader that was even better. It was a blast to go around and add my favorite sites to my RSS. I had always seen that icon on this site and others I just never clicked it. I afraid that it would take to some stange place that would confuse my. Boy was I wrong. It is so easy adn kid friendly. Kids can use this to keep track of current events for class and do research for projects. Instead of having to contastanly have to search for information, it can brought to them. Whoever made this up is a GENIUS

Thing #9

I tried to go to the Custom Sign Generator but when I would pick a text for the sign it would always say 'Page cannot be displayed'. So I just said forget it after about 45 minutes of no progress. So then I went to Image Chef and made this....

ImageChef.com - Custom comment codes for MySpace, Hi5, Friendster and more

This thing was very fun to do. Kids can use this to make holiday cards and funny cards for thier parents, but thier is some unappropriate things on some of these sites so they would need to be monitored.

Thing #8

I made this from Mosaic Maker .....

I made this with
Spell with Flickr

K::Münster dot the I with a ball M B E R L Y

You can use
Mappr in Social Studies to identify what happened at place by a picture. Mosaic Maker can be used to have students identify the pictures for a quiz or an assignment

Thing #7

Creating the flickr account wasn't hard and browsing through pictures we pretty fun. I found some of these...

(I have always wanted to jump off of one of these)

Yes I am an art nerd. This is a photograph taken by Henri Cartier-Bresson in 1932.

Thing #6

The first site it tried to go to was Docstoc.com.
I figured that since it was under the Education heading that it would deal a lot with the educational setting. Nope. I was wrong. It is just a place to put documents for people to see. Anyone can use it so its not so educational and super boring

Next I tried Imcooked. It looked really cool but I wanted to find something better.

So hopefully third times the charm...and it was. I found Hairmixer.com. With this website you take a picture and put whatever hair on it you want. I put a picture of myself on there and put Reese Witherspoon's hair on and this is what I got...

And then I decided to have some fun.....

Hope my cat isn't mad at me. LOL

I don't really see this being used in an educational setting unless it could be just a fun activity for kids to do.

Thing #5

I had always thought that I was pretty good with technology. I use it for school, the whole time I am at my job, and I have Myspace. So I was thinking "Oh yea, I got this. This class won be that hard". Man was I in for a surprise when I started this class. I heard words like Web 2.0, podcast, mail merge and I was dumbfounded. I had not idea what any of these things were. It kind of made me put my ego in check and say 'Maybe I don't know as much as I thought'. As we get farther in the class I am starting to understand more, but technology updates constantly and you have to on your toes for when something new comes out.

Web 2.0 to me is incorporating more technology in the classroom to help students understand better. It's amazing how far we have come in technology. We can now use power point, document cameras, internet in every classroom, and microphones for teachers. For the future I see that we will make so many more technological advances that every student, no matter what grade, will have a computer for themselves.

Thing #4

Commenting was kinda fun. Reading what everytone posted and learning about them. Since we have such a small class I am really going to try to keep up with commenting on new blogs that are posted. I just have this horrible habit of having the best intentions when starting something and being really upbeat about it and then a few weeks later I am like "ehhh I can totally do this later" and it doesn't ever get finished. I've been really trying to work on that, but since we have such a small class I think I can do it.

I have commented on these from our class:
Kelly Brown since she has also be affected by breast cancer in her family
Heidi Burn because I though her avatar was cute with her baby girl in it
Tiffany Alemand was one of the first people to post a blog
Alexis Clemens because I agreed with her about pajamas and bunny slippers
Michelle Burkhart since her avatar reminded me of a day with my out of town best friend

I have commented on these two from out of class:
I found Traveling Chemist in Blogs of Note. This blog reminded me of a trip to my sister's house in Texas when the A/C broke

I found Roseanna's Table Talk in Blog of note as well. They had contest that sounded off to me...a table setting contest. She posted pictures and the table looked incredible and so creative.

Thing #3

Using a blog as a teacher sounds like such a fun and helpful thing. With a blog I can communicate with different teachers and get ideas about ways to help teach my students. Also I can share stories about how different things I have tried in my classroom were successful or need some work. This can be great communication tool with the parent of my students. They can look at my blog and see what I am doing in my classroom and hopefully come visit and participate with their child.

Thing #2

Making my avatar was pretty fun. With all of the things that you can put on them the possibilities were endless. I thought that picking out the clothes was the best part since some of those were ridiculous. With the avatar you can use your imagination so much. I had a really fun time with the masks you can use. With my avatar I wanted her to be as much life me as i could get her. I included the monkey because I have loved monkeys since I was a junior in high school. I always thought that they were so cute. The background I choose reminded me of my 1 year anniversary with my boyfriend. We drove all the way down to Pensacloa, Florida and spent the night on the beach in a tent. I thought it was amazing to unzip the tent and see this beautiful sunrise on the ocean full of so many colors.

Thing #1

I thought that the lifelong learning was very informative. My easist habit is habit number 6. When I have a problem or am in need of help to do something I turn to technology as a resource. It is so easy to use and access that it is the best starting place to answer a question or overcome a problem. The habit that I find the hardest is number 3. When I am presented with a problem in the beginning I am confident that i can overcome it. After time I would begin to get frustrated and give up. I have been trying to work on since I want to become a teacher and that is an important quality to possess.
